General, ATS-friendly formatting guidance for applying to TCS and similar large IT services companies.

This is general best practice for applying to any high-volume IT services employer, not confidential information from TCS's hiring process. Companies at this scale — hiring across thousands of roles and campus batches — rely heavily on ATS platforms to filter before a recruiter ever opens a resume.

Format for volume, not design

• Single-column, plain layout — no sidebars, tables, or icon-based skill ratings
• Standard section headers — "Education," "Skills," "Experience/Projects," "Certifications"
• Consistent date formats throughout (e.g., "Jun 2022 – Present")
• Full name and contact details in the body text, not embedded in a header graphic

Lead with technical skills clearly

Large IT services firms typically hire against specific technology requirements — a role might explicitly need "Java, Spring Boot, SQL" or "Python, Django, AWS." List your technical skills as a distinct, scannable section rather than folding them into narrative paragraphs, so a keyword-matching system can pick them up reliably.

Tailor to the specific role code or JD

Large IT services postings often come with a specific role description (e.g., "Java Full Stack Developer" vs. "Mainframe Developer"). Adjust your skills emphasis and project descriptions to match the specific posting's language rather than submitting one generic resume to every opening.

Keep formatting conservative

Avoid decorative fonts, colored backgrounds, or infographic-style resumes. At high application volumes, the safest format is the one guaranteed to parse cleanly, not the one that looks most distinctive.
